Copying webpage text in Opera Mini 4.2 using bookmarklet

14 Jul 2010

I’ve been trying to find out how to copy page text using Opera Mini 4.2. Opera Mini 5 and BOLT browser has the ability to copy page text. But unfortunately Opera Mini 5 is not supported by my Nokia 3230. While BOLT Browser is too heavy for my Nokia 3230.

Uncle Google pointed me to http://wapreview.com/blog/?p=4367 . It let me copy text from webpage, yes. But unfortunately it wasn’t able to retrieve text from pages that require login and it is not available anymore (the service at http://menneisyys.s156.eatj.com/ has died).

Then, wapreview found another trick (
http://wapreview.com/blog/?p=3087 ). Someone has created http://couisinisaac.com/mobitol . But unfortunately it wasn’t able to retrieve text from pages that require login and it can’t be summoned from bookmarklet.

So I unintendedly found these 2 bookmarklets:
* Coralize ( http://www.worldtimzone.com/bookmarklets/ )
* Page Text ( http://www.trylookinghere.com/bookmarklets/bookmarkletgenpur4.shtml )
Those two inspired me to make copy-paste bookmarklet. Unfortunately I don’t understand most of the code. So I just do trial-and-error with some part I understand. And i think that i’ve made it. Here is the code.

If you want to use the bookmarklet in Opera Mini click the links below. When the page reloads bookmark it. Then edit the bookmark address by removing “http://o.yeswap.com/?” from the beginning.

Click here

The good thing is that this one can retrieve text from pages that require login.

Unfortunately, there are some scripts scattered before or after the texts. I dont know how to deal with them. Maybe somebody can help me?

There are still plenty of bookmarklets for Opera Mini you can find at http://o.yeswap.com
